Edai Town Black Soldier Fly Facility

Build a dedicated BSF facility at Edai Town, turning local food waste into affordable feed, fertiliser and jobs.
Turning a growing town’s food waste into feed, fertiliser and jobs.
Edai Town sits just outside Port Moresby in Central Province, alongside four neighbouring villages. Every day its kitchens, shops, markets and gardens produce food waste that is dumped or burned, while local poultry and fish farmers pay high prices for imported feed.
PNG Beyond50 Foundation is raising K100,000 to build a dedicated black soldier fly (BSF) facility at Edai Town. Larvae will turn the town’s organic waste into high-protein animal feed and organic fertiliser (frass) that local farmers can buy at a fair price.
Edai Town researchers have already trained in BSF farming alongside NARI, Unitech and Lae City Mission. This facility puts that knowledge to work, and will become a demonstration site for farmers, schools and youth groups across Central Province.
